As the world increasingly turns to technology to create and store information, MARBL’s significance as a preeminent repository of the written word increases. Those who support the library are passionate advocates of creating a memorable space, where these manuscripts, diaries, letters, and volumes will be lovingly stored, wisely conserved, and generously shared.
A poet and writer, Margaret Hodgson Ellis Langford cherishes books. First as a student and later as a teacher, she has known the joy of rereading beloved works and the excitement of new literary discoveries. As a volunteer and supporter of Emory’s MARBL, she has found a worthy cause.
“There is so much unspoken that you receive when you reach out for books themselves,” says Langford, a member of MARBL’s advisory board and the library’s campaign committee. “A new library to house MARBL and its collections and to help get these books into the hands of students and scholars is absolutely a matter of necessity.”
Langford says a new home for MARBL will build the community of readers in Atlanta and offer a welcoming doorway into the world of books for the younger generation. “We must be stewards of the heritage of books. We must hold on to books and to reading. We must fight to keep them in the culture and in the hands of students,” Langford says.
Your gift helps make it possible for the library to foster inquiry within and beyond Emory’s campus. Your generosity will ensure strategic acquisitions, support innovative projects, and help scholars gain new insights.
